The final 'th' sound in English is a difficult one for some none native speakers, I know.

yes! especially when theres a D before the TH! but 'earth' is also very difficult…

when theres a consonant before the 'th' its particularly hard i guess! 'mouth' isnt a problem for me

It's because modern English lacks diphthongs (now there's a good word) although Anglo Saxon English which I also know) didn't.
